My experience at Critter Care will be a memory I will hold close to my heart. Even the various struggles and hardships I encountered during my time in Critter Care became priceless memories and, in some situations, became a self-realization that I adored these animals more than I had thought. For instance, although having taken care of two growlies for a short period of time, the day they were euthanized it left a larger impact on me than I had thought. I experienced things I never thought I would experience, such as waking up at 3 am to feed my deer mice or working in stifling hot weather or administering oral medication. Moreover, working with animals caused me to become keener in my observation of the animals I had taken care of. Such as being concerned with the color of my raccoon’s poop or the sudden limp of one of my skunks. I learnt many things from simple things such as making a milk dish or food plates to finding signs of distemper in raccoons. Although I had signed up to intern at Critter Care to deepen my understanding and responsibilities of animal care, I had also made valuable relations with the interns I worked with.
